Another Week, Another Three Condo Projects Approved by City of Ottawa
The Ottawa condo boom just seems to keep rolling along! The past few weeks has seen the approval of three more, large condo developments.
The 11-storey, 130-unit Kavanaugh condo building proposed by Domicile Developments was approved for 222 Beechwood Avenue in New Edinburgh. A new 23-storey 195-unit condo building designed by Claridge was approved for 1050 Somerset St. W. at the corner of Breezehill Ave. And another 14-storey 92-unit condo project was approved for the corner of Richmond Rd and Woodroffe Ave. in Ottawa’s west end.
While community groups voiced some concerns over the social impact of these new buildings, such as concerns about noise and traffic congestion, City of Ottawa Councillors saw these projects as potentially re-invigorating neighbourhoods desperately in need of new housing and investment. All three of these projects are being built in communities outside of the central core of the City of Ottawa, areas that have been on the periphery of the recent flurry of new condo developments being announced across the City.
Councillors are hoping these new buildings, with their new residents will bring new energy and investment to the neighbouring communities. They are counting on the spending power of these new condo residents to attract new businesses, restaurants, stores and services that will revitalize these neighbourhoods.
Time will tell if these developments lead to even more future development!
